Couple Maternity Photo Ideas

You can choose to do an outdoor maternity session or a studio photo session with a professional photographer, or even one at your home!

Here some some of the best maternity photoshoot ideas:

Find a beautiful garden or field

This might be the most popular of all outdoor maternity photoshoot ideas.

Large, green lawns are especially attractive backgrounds, as they provide a beautiful and serene setting for your photoshoot.

Consider visiting a local park or botanical garden to find the perfect field, or even just a large open space in your own backyard.

To add an extra touch of seasonal charm to your maternity pictures, choose an outfit that matches the colors of the season.

For example, if you’re shooting in the fall, you might pick warm and earthy tones like red, orange, and yellow. Or if you’re shooting in the spring, you might opt for softer pastel shades like pink, purple, and blue.

Tip: Get the timing right

Outdoor locations can make for beautiful backdrops in maternity photography. Whether you choose a natural setting like a field or a beach, or a more urban location like a cityscape, the great outdoors provides endless options for your photos.

Just be sure to time your shoot for the best lighting and weather conditions!

Think about the time of day, the weather, and the location, natural settings are important when deciding on the timing for your photoshoot.

For example, early morning or late afternoon may be the best times to capture soft, warm light. Golden hour being the best for getting that unique maternity photo with the expecting mother and the sun coming down.

FAQ

The most common question we get is when is the best time for maternity photos and typically, the best time for a maternity photo shoot is during the third trimester, between 30 and 36 weeks.

If this is your first pregnancy, it’s best to schedule your photo shoot towards the end of this window, around 30-36 weeks.

On the other hand, if you’ve been pregnant before, you may start showing earlier, in which case it’s best to schedule your photoshoot earlier, around 24-28 weeks. This is when your baby bump will have a nice round shape, and you’ll be most comfortable for the photoshoot.
